Senior Health, Fitness & Reablement

By getting active seniors can age well and age independently. Much of the usual age related decline in physical function is preventable and even reversible through proper attention to achieving the required physical activity levels. Our Exercise Physiologist understands the complex nature of senior health and prescribes physical activity based interventions that allow seniors to remain strong, active and independent .

One of the most powerful ways to maintain independence and quality of life is to adopt wellness, reablement and restorative approaches to care.

At Age Well For Life EP we understand that early detection of physical weakness and attention to appropriate physical activity and exercise levels is key to ageing well and ageing independently.

Our ability to enjoy an active and independent lifestyle well into the later years will depend to a large degree on how well we maintain our physical activity levels.

Unfortunately the majority of older adults do not get the amount of exercise they require and are living dangerously close to their maximum abilities during normal activities of daily living .

Although the life expectancy of Australians continues to increase so too does the possibility of living more years with physical limitation.

Our Exercise Physiologist undertakes comprehensive senior specific tests that are safe, valid and reliable to help guide our evidence based exercise prescription. The prescription of senior specific exercise programs are based on the principle of supporting customers to retain their autonomy and build their capacity to manage day to day life.

The Reablement and Restorative Care Home Independence Program (Approx 6-12 Weeks)

Our EP can conveniently visit you at your own home and establish a reablement and restorative care program (RRC) that is designed to improve your overall health and well-being and help you remain independent. The main goal of our RRC program is to slow, and where possible, reduce functional decline.

Research has shown that services such as our Reablement and Restorative Care program have been found to significantly increase the likelihood that an older person referred for home care will not need ongoing home care assistance and reduce the likelihood of future admissions to residential care and hospital.

The RRC program is delivered in the comfort of your own home, usually over a 6-12 week period.

With our RRC program you are in the drivers seat. Our EP will work with you closely to help design an individualised program that will allow you to achieve your specific goals.

Over the course of the RRC program our EP will help you:

  • Feel stronger
  • Feel healthier
  • Feel happier
  • Remain independent

The Key Components Of The Age Well For Life RRC Home Independence Program:

  • Comprehensive multidimensional assessment
  • Goal-oriented care planning in partnership with client
  • Targeted evidence-based interventions to optimize functioning in daily living activities
  • Education about self-management, healthy aging and falls prevention strategies

If we had a pill that conferred all the confirmed health benefits of exercise, would we not do everything humanly possible to see to it that everyone had access to this wonder drug? Would it not be the most prescribed pill in the history of mankind?
